I accept a hit to the handle bars is more destabilising, however you appeared earlier to be passing it off as a complete non-incident, implying it nothing more than two cars involved in a 5mph car park nudge - spot of T-cut job done kind of afair. perhaps things have been lost in reading it written down compared to a face to face discussion?

It is a non incident in that no-one was hurt and no damage to humans or machines (nothing that a bit of T-Cut can't remedy) occurred. You can speculate with 'what ifs' until the cows come home but the reality is that the world has moved on. Nothing has changed. Nothing can be changed.

I've suffered a mirror strike on my motor cycle and it's a lot less destabilising than a direct hit to the handle bars. The mirror is free to rotate forwards with minimal torque transferred to the bars. A direct hit to the handle bars of a cyclist is more likely to have a catastrophic effect because of the greatly reduced moment of inertia and reduced gyroscopic stabilisation of the front wheel.

Trust me, I'm a motorcycling cyclist who happens to be an applied physical scientist.

Thank goodness it isn't rocket science.

That is a bit like saying if someone aimed a gun at your head and fired and missed then it was a non incident , the outcome should not take away from how dangerous the situation was, in both cases someone could of been killed or seriously injured .

Owning a gun is illegal and and any public use of it is a serious incident. Owning a car and using it without injuring the public isn't a serious incident. In the first instance the intention was to kill. In the second there was no intention to kill or maim.

Try a better example. I'm not arguing with you. I'm just explaining why I'm right.

My point was you cannot judge whether something was dangerous or not by the outcome, a car rolls down a hill and into a playground full of children but misses them all , you get my point?

Edit- BTW are you saying the jag driver was acting legally?

Just an incident less of one than the mirror strike. No contact made. No-one hurt.

Dangerous driving or driving without due care and attention!?

The police deemed otherwise.

Nice to know that some cyclists on this thread regard this as a non-incident because the guy on the scooter wasn't hurt. Just remember that, next time you are bleating about close passes when out on your cycle. A close pass is fine as long as there is no collision then? Yet this poor learner on his scooter was actually struck, albeit only a mirror....

Arrogant Jag driving prat was asking for a smack in the jaw, and would probably have got it from most other riders.

I never bleat about close passes, never have never will. A closs pass is not the end of the world or the beginning of the end of the world. A close pass is a bit like an aircraft landing that you can walk away from, perfectly fine.

As long as when I stretch my arms out and they don't touch coffin sides I will celebrate and plan for the present and not fret about planning for the past.
