Did you know that Ricky Gervais, Charlie Watts and Robby Williams have never passed their driving test? All that money and they can't enjoy the pleasure of driving a very expensive car or any car for that matter.

For sure they are missing out on an awful lot, you cannot beat the 10 mile from where I am to Regents Park in the Estate, take the tarmac off the roof rack, do some laps, and then drive home again. Bliss.

I test drove a pre-loved XKR the other evening. Glorious car. Wonderful. Yet the nice car queues just as much as an average one. The roads hereabouts have too many other vehicles on them, and too many of the too many vehicles on the road are driven by too many complete tools.

I test drove a 2nd hand Ferrari a number of years ago with a serious consideration to buy it. After being totally underwhelmed I opted not to.

Now driving in a necessary evil I undertake only when necessary.

Driving an expensive car or any car maybe be very enjoyable... but i decided not to drive decades ago. I have found plenty of other things that are very enjoyable and I don't have a car sized hole in my life. I'm sure if i had plenty of money i could think of hundreds of other things to do before i'd think about buying a car.

The problem with people who drive really expensive sports cars is they tend to think they have superior skills, in actual fact the reverse is true on a kind of sliding scale, so, say a Ferrari is worth £200k, that means the driver has three quids worth of ability.

Richard Hammond, I rest my case m'lud.

Had a shottie of an F430 around Ingliston - wot a disappointment. A childhood dream crushed. 911 turbo on the other hand was outstanding. Also a couple o laps in a race spec Ford Focus with a professional race driver at the wheel - holy crap that thing had serious stopping power.
