How would the new rules impact on flying one under the final approach path. I can't fly the radio controlled helicopter due to it, are the rules now the same for drones?

Yes https://www.caa.co.uk/Consumers/Unmanned-aircraft/Our-role/Drone-and-model-aircraft-registration/

Fine is up to £1000. My drone used to tell me I was in class (something) airspace where recreational flight might be expected. I'm guessing that the relative exclusion zones around airports take approach into account, at least DJI etc would definitely have an audio and visual warning - again if the drone even takes off.. It could limit it's own height and distance from operator in those areas, I'm not sure
