Dual pivot brake not springing back

Can I just thank everyone who contributed, I pulled the caliper apart, not enough to see any bearing and after a lot of swearing and pricing up a new caliper I had one final go and hey presto it went back together perfectly. So I don't know what I did to sort it but thanks once again.

I had a similar problem on my rear caliper which had me stumped. What it turned out to be was....... If you look at the photo on the right you will see that the end of the spring runs into a collar, on mine that is made of plastic and the spring was binding in the collar, it is supposed to move freely. I noticed that the spring on yours looks a little rusty so would actually make it worse. If it has been OK and only just started to play up then that might me the answer. If so, I`d remove the spring and lightly sand the end, lubricate and refit. Hope this helps.

Good point, but the fact that it binds when tightening the tube nut tells me it is the bearing.

Ah the "random fiddle" approach. My favourite. Gets there in the end. Can sometimes take a long time though.

Glad all sorted. Sometimes the simplest of things can be a headache.
