Temple Bar. The Craic.

All you need to know really. Public transport is good and you can get day passes and such, but the best way is to walk, and to talk to people. They're a friendly lot in the main and everything is "Grand, grand, thanks a million"

Chester Beatty Museum well worth the trip for a spot of culture. Guinness Brewery is cheesy but the views are good. Collins Barracks I found fascinating being of irish blood myself. The Post Office. Yep that one.

The Stags Head is worthy watering hole/feeding station, does a mighty plate of bacon and cabbage, there are a few other victorian era pubs, whose names the Powers have wiped from my mind, which haven't been redeveloped around the city. If I remember the names, rather than how to find them, I'll post again.

I used to live there. If you want to you want to do the touristy thing there's plenty Temple Bar, the Guiness Brewery etc but I preferred getting to the pubs outside of TB. I'm not too up on Northside pubs though I lived on the Southside; where in the north are you going Parnell St?

If I mind right there's a big GAA pub up there near Croke Park thats popular (i cant recall its name ). My mate used to live up there but we always met in town, Parnell St was the furthest I usually ventured (the west side of Parnell St (west of O'Connell Street) had some good pubs and a good bike shop) and headed towards Temple Bar although as I was saying I preferred the pubs south of that.

Edit Quinns is the name of the GAA pub.

Across the road from Temple Bar there is a really nice restaurant called Gallacher's Boxty House.

Also I can't remember the name of the pub but it's on the next corner to the east of the Temple Bar pub and is in my humble opinion a far better place than the TB itself. Go upstairs to the top floor.

I went there for a 6 Nations game and foolishly had a flag of StGeorge painted on my face. This was back in the mid 90's. I was a bit green round the ears back then, but I didnt realise how much they hate the English. The verbal abuse in the pubs after the match was scary. (England put about 40 points past Ireland)

Maybe the surname and heritage gets me a free pass in some quarters but the worst I've ever experienced there is some very expert pisstaking and very drunken camaraderie.

+1. I can't say I've ever been abused by the Irish. Yes they take the urine but they do that of themselves.
