Yes I've definitely heard of it........ Caveat is I only heard of it once I moved to the states.

I can vaguely remember playing something in a circle in Brownies as a child but I only remember the circle and running around the outside, not the selection process as to who was running around the outside of the circle.

Like a couple of others, I played it as a nipper at Cubs. Had no idea it was considered an American thing!

Having asked somewhere else, an American dug out he fact that it appeared in some kind of list of children's pastimes from Scotland in the 1100s!

I played it at parties as a child, and have continued to use it in play settings. I didn't think it was American though.
