Well - a bunch of five kids in a Beemer got killed a few years ago - doing 140 on the A23 near Pyecombe in Sussex. And they killed three other innocent people in another vehicle going the other way. One of the passengers - a girl - was apparently phoning a friend at the time to boast about their speed (no Facebook in those days). I sometimes wonder how the police/fire/paramedics ascertained that there really were five in the car - possibly they had to 're-assemble' the bodies from assorted 'bits' and then count them. Try passing on that story...

You probably won't need to shop him because somebody else has probably already done it.
On balance I agree with the majority on here; the lad needs at least a good talk from a Police officer and at most a ban. He is a danger to your niece and the public and needs to be taught a lesson. Don't ignore the PR value of a ban; his mates will hear all about it and there will be a value far beyond just taking him off the road for a year.
Two years ago we had one killed and four badly injured on a country road not far from our house; five lads in their 20s in a Honda Civic R type were doing about 80mph down a narrow lane when the car took off from a rise, bounced three times off the walls, hit a parked Volvo and ended up upside down in the field. The front passenger was found dead some distance away wrapped up in the windscreen and the driver was mashed into the back seat with his three mates, all of whom had major fractures; femurs, pelvises etc. Now the spot is marked with the usual pathetic plastic flowers.

Well, after me posting on Facebook, the relevant posts have been deleted. I texted my SIL to see if she'd seen it, and explained I was only being a concerned Uncle, and didn't fancy seeing either of them hurt.
Niece has been forwarded my text and mum has had a word. It was 'apparently' on Santa Pod (video time stamp was like before 6am ) ??? She has apologised and said it won't happen again. I added that if he wants to drive that fast on the 'track' again then make sure you are not in it - this is a bog standard car, no roll cage... I also explained had she seen the mess it makes of a car crashing at 70mph, not 120 mph - scraping body parts up over a wide area.
I also mentioned the quote above about boyfriend's driving being a big killer.
Well see, hopefully mum will rollock the boyfriend this weekend.
Thank goodness I discovered cycles as a 'kid'.....that's where I got my kicks.

If the Corsa has been tweaked (although a clock speed of 120 may well "only" be around the 108-110 mark which a Corsa may be capable) then its likely a no insurance rap would be added to the speeding/careless/dangerous driving charge.
My speedo generally shows about 10% higher than my sat Nav (Various sat Navs and vehicles) and driving at Sat Nav speeds has not set off a gatso yet, so assume they are not over reading

It was speedo 120 - so 10-12 mph out.
I've even clocked my own car using my Edge 705 (my son had it in his hand) and me doing 70 was actually 65.

I'd be suprised if a Corsa could do over 100 at Santa Pod within the 1/4 mile, even tweaked slightly.
If they have difference sized alloys/tyres that can also affect the speed reading.
GPS isn't that great for measuring speed Fossyant, only averages (still better than the odo though).
My general rule for speedoes is 2mph over for every 35. (Most seem to run 70 on the road as 74 on the dash). Parallax affects it as well.
If it really was at Santa Pod, they should have a slip surely to prove so?

My auntie used to work in a kids home - one of her charges was a lass, confined to a wheel chair and with severe and permanent brain damage, who was the only survivor of a crash which killed four of her school mates. 15, double incontinent and dribbling out the corner of her mouth. It was f*cking heartbreaking. Report him.
I only wish the public could report driving .Cos this morning i saw two belters .It's now snowing heavy in Meanwood .I was coming back from the shops walking .A very large van going down Stonegate Road .Driver both wrists on wheel while he is messing with his ipod or phone he had headphones on .

She's sent a message explaining is was at Santa Pod, and that he had done it to see how fast his car would go. She said he never does this on public road. She has also said it was stupid of her and it won't happen again and thanked me for 'looking out' for her (dad is not around).

As she might be a bit more wary now, but you don't know how easy she might fall to peer-pressure depending on how her boyfriend or others decide to act or push.
Do you realistically think she would go "slow down" to her boyfriend whilst driving? etc...
I think he needs to be dealt with more than her...

Eh? Don't you know that most Police forces encourage the public to report bad driving? You just call the non-emergency number and ask them to take a report; as long as the make/reg/colour are correct the vehicle will be logged on the PNC and next time it is "seen" by a car equipped with ANPR (unlikely, I know) the driver will be stopped for a chat. Three reports will earn them a home visit and the likelihood of the car being confiscated and crushed.
We are in the process of working with Lancashire Police to sort out an habitual speeder in our street. He's had the home visit and now they need three independent reports, which will let them take his car away. He's still racing in the street so it won't be long.
