I have a few pence to add to this.

My mate/BIL also has a Corsa, but his is a 1.0L. I can tell you for a fact that it struggles to get to 80-100mph even downhill! I doubt a 1.2 could do 120mph on a 1/4 mile, flat Dragstrip from a standstill. There just isnt enough room. When I was a kid my dad used to race his Norton 950 Motorbike in street class. IIRC he only just managed to top 120-140mph on some of his best runs!

Santa Pod doesnt give out slips (or at least, they never used to). They have a big display at/around the 1/4 mile mark that displays the speed/time over the 1/4 mile. Avon Park however, did give out said time slips. If it was being filmed at Santa Pod, wouldnt you film this board instead of the speedo!?

If there is an event hosted at Santa Pod, usually the spectators and participants are camped just off the pit lane. I cant remember if there are any gates that get shut at Santa Pod but at Avon park there was a gate at the end of the drag strip. This gate was closed at about 10pm every night and opened at about 8am in the morning. I think there may have been a similar gate at the start of Sata Pod's Dragstrip. So 6am seems far too early to be able to do this.

So yeah, sounds like BS to me. It probably was filmed on a public road.

personally, i would give him 2 options.

option 1. i won''t goto the police and give him a good beating.

option 2. i'd goto the police.

either option will give him something to worry about and would keep him off the road for 6 months. and the extra bonus is it will keep him away from your family, as he's hardly likely to keep on seeing her is he?

i'm surprised by you fossyant and a bit worried, i live not too far from you and my wife and i use the motorways around manchester. you're actively letting a numpty possibly, be putting my families or my life in danger. tbh if he's driving like that and thinking it's funny to film / photo it and then facebook it, then what sort of driving is this dickhead doing on the roads we cycle on. action needs to taken fossy and needs to be taken now, but i suspect deep down you already know that.

What a fantastically over-dramatic post. You're seriously condoning beating a lad up, to the point where he would be unable to drive again for 6 months and would ensure he would break off the relationship, because he drove fast on a motorway (if it was a road), before 6am when it would have been empty anyway?

So many members of this forum blow these things out of proportion to such an extent, it's laughable. If fossy has not given the lad a 'good beating' or gone to the police, he's not 'actively letting a numpty possibly, be putting my families or my life in danger', he's approaching the issue with a level head. We don't even know the conditions, if it was on a motorway, driving fast on an empty one is not particularly dangerous.

if anyone put my families life in danger, yes. he would have choice tho. in your view, if the police saw him, they would not ban him for being over 100mph, wouldn't charge him with dangerous driving, and ignore the charge of reckless endangerment of human life, because, 'it's ok, the motorway was empty'.

tbh if society wasn't so slap shod about offenses like this and took responsibility and be willing to take people to task, then the police wouldn't be over run, gangs wouldn't terrorize neighbour hoods and the roads would be safe to cycle on.

deal with things the dingle way, i say.

When did I say that the police wouldn't do anything about it if they witnessed it? I was simply saying that there is no need to go to the police to get a family member banned, or beat a bloke up as he was in truth, causing little threat. And your views on gangs and road safety are laughable.

There is no way he's done that speed on the 1/4 mile track - the video is about a minute long. He'd need a Corsa VXR tuned to get even close to 100 mph in a 1/4 mile.

Anyone know if there are any other tracks/roads at Santa Pod that you could get a car upto this speed, over a couple of miles ? Is the track actually long enough (including the run off areas for the drag cars).

I'll be saying to mom tonight that I have doubts about where it was done.

It's an old airfield so there'll be some kind of perimeter road, but looking at site on google maps it's not in great condition & I doubt that a car would be able to maintain a constant 100-120mph on the perimeter road as the corners are tight in places.

No-one seems to have mentioned two things yet................all teenagers think they are immortal and all young male drivers think they have the car control skills of Lewis Hamilton . No amount of bollocking/breaking of kneecaps etc will ever change those facts.

Fessin up time. When I was young and foolish we used to take girls for a burn in my mates Lotus Elan (the James Bond one. Total fanny magnet but I digress).

Dont know how many times we got well over the ton but it was lots. The road from Edinburgh to Lanark was our main drag

And you know what.........................we loved it and so did the girls. No amount of lecturing was going to stop us, cause we knew it was a way to pull the birds.

Anyway, I have now turned into an old git who shouts at corsa drivers to slow down in tesco's carpark. "It's not a bloody racetrack you know!"

My advice FWIW is to bear in mind all the stupid things you did when you were 18 while talking to him. Might make it easier in controlling the impulse to hit him with a bat

Bollocks was it at Santa Pod! i could be wrong but I've just been on the website and it doesn't look like the sort of place where you can just turn up and use the track in your own car, you have to book it as an event and that means BIG money. She's just said that to calm her mom down. I think you should come down hard on her and when you see her bollock her, tell her you took a copy of it and that you are still considering going to the police, and let the police investigate whether they were at the track. Really go for it and make her realise that hers, his and other people's lives are at stake and a car is not a toy.

Don't worry about telling her you do not believe that she was at Santa Pod because (a) if she wasn't she will know that she can't pull the wool over your eyes and (b) if she was, she will certainly think twice about transferring that sort of behaviour to the road, and she will be able to prove she was

When you have reduced her to tears tell her you will hold on to the video and if you hear anything similar again then you will have no hesitation in going to the police. Give her a rollicking that my dad would be proud of (the sort of rollicking that makes me scared of my dad!).

I think you should invite the boyfriend round and bollock them together. Make him feel downright ashamed that he put your niece's life at risk.

Certain events run "RWYB"... Run What Ya Brung (stupid) where you can just turn up. You also get a slip from your run with your times etc.

To get around 100mph over a 1/4 mile you're looking at a sub-14s time or about 210bhp/ton... let's put this in a bit of context - BMW 1 Series M Coupe, Ford Focus RS, Impreza STI, Porsche Boxster, Lotus Elise 111R. That's one heady group for a 1.2l Corsa to play ball with, you're talking forced induction &/or nitrous with some major internal work to the engine. It you were going to put the sort of money into the car to get it to that level you'd have no problems starting with the highest performance model.

I know, that's my point... (although for some reason I was't thinking of a 1.2 hence why I didn't decide to go with "definitely not")

Just for info - you can do this... http://www.rwyb.co.uk/

yea but you can't get that speed out of a corsa on such a short strip. he was on a public road

The first bit of non hysterical advice on this thread. We were all young once

And equally, we would have been bollocked if we'd got caught! That's the problem nowadays, everyone's scared to give young people a bollocking, or punish them, so they never learn.

What a fantastically over-dramatic post. ... We don't even know the conditions, if it was on a motorway, driving fast on an empty one is not particularly dangerous.

Is it? even if the motorway was empty, he's still putting Fossy's niece's life at risk.

Chaps, move on - it was filmed on the road, I think you can all stop looking for secret underground test tracks, evidence of RWYB entries etc.

Kids do this all the time, filmed...on...the.....r o a d!
The faster a car goes the more inaccurate the speedometer becomes.

I think (not 100%) that a speedo is allowed to read up to 10% over the true speed, but isn't allowed to read under. I had to know this sort of thing many years ago when I imported a car. I guess this is tested during manufacture, but I doubt it would ever be checked again unless the discrepancy was so large as to be noticed on an MOT. Even with that allowance, 120mph from an ageing? 1.2 Corsa sounds unlikely. Still, we know from Maggers that all videos are fakes ;-)

Just read back - sorry for the repeat info!

I wasn't suggesting RWYB entry, but the former. Although I was just correcting someone suggesting that you couldn't just go and enter one of these 1/4 miles off hat.

An additional small problem here is that the niece has lied too.

Update,

Spoke to mum and niece was in floods of tears after my messages. Think it's hit home and boyfriend is well aware now.

I said 'I hope you don't think I was interferring' etc, but I suppose when there is no 'dad' in the picture, an angry 'bestest' uncle might be listened to.

The proof of the driving's gone, but I think my 'intervention' has worked, given comments made by the boyfriend to my SIL.

Next time I'll scalp him on the push bike and d-lock him. Sure I'd easily out-run him off Saddleworth, or Holme Moss
