DUMBARTON - ST ANDREWS OVERNIGHT

8PM, SATURDAY 18TH JUNE 2011, DUMBARTON CASTLE, DUMBARTON

For those who don't pay attention to the Rides Calendar, there are now two weeks until Dumb Run V. This year the Dumb Run is being brought to us by the power of Kenny Loggins, Raving Rabbids and Minions ("PAPOY!")

I know we clash with LEPRA. We always clash with LEPRA. We set our date first, that's all I can say.

There's a report of the previous rides here in Rider's Tales if you want to get a feel for it.

This is an unsupported ride. If you choose to join us you do so as an individual who has decided to come along. There is no sag wagon, no TECs, no transport laid on, no intermediate cake stop, nothing. The most we can promise is a beer on the beach at the end, a high chance of Armageddon (or at least hot hail), some great banter and quite possibly the most number of Buckfast Zombies you will ever see in one ride. Some of them can be hilarious. We also promise not to drop anyone. Ever.

More information available at Dumb Run HQ, or feel free to PM me.

ETA: If you want to come but can't make it, and are contemplating next year, the date for DRVI will be posted to Dumb Run HQ on the evening of Sunday 19th June.

Oh Yes !

I've wanted to do this one since I first heard of it and this year, it's a choice between a friend's (actually my Best Man's) Ceilidh - or the Dumb Run.

No competition ...

See you in Dumbarton - and I hope you are well enough to ride all the way with us :bicycle: ...

hmmm ... I think I'll pass on this one, especially as it's the night before Edinburgh-St Andrews.

See you all at St Andrews, if you are spending the day flaked out on the beach?

I have spent the last 3 hours trying to work out if I can take part in the Dumb Run V, ride home (I live near St A's) and get over to Glasgow airport for 8am to make a 10am flight.

Have run my carefully crafted plan past the wife her silence was highly expressive.

Next year?

Think so................

How about headless jelly babies for those who are with you in spirit?

Thought the LEPRA was on the Saturday? You should be there long before we even start. We might see you Sunday morning, if you're flaked out on the beach, although I suspect this is highly unlikely!

We were arriving around 8am last time, so I suspect you wouldn't make your flight, but we'll reserve you a jelly-baby slot next year, assuming we don't bring about the end of the world this year.

Oops, got my dates wrong!

So some very fit people (not me) could just about manage both, with a train or three thrown in

Looking forward to more crazy pictures ...

When I did LEPRA I think we got in about half three, which is plenty time to get on a train from Leuchars to Dumbarton East.

I have considered it. On the other hand, leaving St Andrews just to go back again is a motivational hump I'm not sure I could climb.

I'm looking forward to putting even more jelly babies on the bridge!

I must admit it appeals, but I can't figure out the logistics of getting there and then getting home. I'm sure it must be a damn sight easier than I'm thinking....

I think it was the 11:16 from Leuchars the Embra squad got last time. Other than me and Andy, cos we had to go to my Dad's birthday party.

The Glasgow Queen St to Dumbarton is the underground and at this point we're usually spread out between two carriages, nomming cold pizza.

In the event of rain we have a secondary gathering spot in Dumbarton at the KFC just down the road near the Asda. We haven't yet found a pub that looks open, which is weird for a Saturday night. But then, Dumbarton seems to be a fairly weird place. If you let us know you're coming I will ping you my mobile number. You can then text us if you're held up by trains and we'll wait for you.

We're not fast (especially won't be this year, as I'm still recovering from injury and illness), we don't do support, but we're very good at waiting for people.

I'd quite like to do this.
Lots.

I've looked at it in years gone by, and stuffed it.
Believe it or not, it's the pic of the jelly babies on the handrail of the Forth Bridge that is the magnet for me.
I want my jelly babies there.

Again, this year, I've left it well late and am committed to riding elsewhere that night.

G'luck with it.
2012 - maybe I'll get it together.

We'll leave a gap in the row this year. Then I'll bring you a photo and point to the gap and say "That should have been yours, there."

Unless it's blowing a howling gale, of course. They won't stand up long enough to take a picture.
