Dunwich Dynamo 2026

I was just wondering about the logistics. I was thinking that a possibility would be to get a hire car at the end of the ride to drive back to London. But looking around Dunwich it really is the middle of nowhere. Nearest place to get a one way hire seems to be Lowestoft, which would add considerable distance to the ride.

also driving after youve spent all night cycling and are knackered, is probably a good way to end up crashing.

I know increasingly people book local airbnbs to stay a night extra, I know it adds extra cost and all that but so does hiring a car.

but dont forget there are things like Southwark Cyclists who organise a coach and truck to bring people and their bikes back to London, and there are several other groups who usually advertise in the Dunwich Dynamo facebook group, again theres a cost associated which puts people off but theres no such thing as a free lunch.

That's what I did a couple of years ago, booked one in Wenhaston near Halesworth; did get changed from a room in the house to a Yurt but actually had more room and could still use the shower.

Did have to while away a few hours before I could check-in so after some food and a pint of Trawler Boys in the Ship rode up to Southwold via Walberswick and chilled on the beach before it got too busy then mooched about and had beer (Broadside) and chips; then wobbled to Wenhaston had a shower and crashed out.

Then rode up to Naaridge to catch a train home Monday morning.

Might be a bit late to find one now though.

Oh, I'm nowhere near being able to do something like the Dynamo, just wondering what the logistics would be if I ever were to try.

If I were to do it again, I'd combine it with a holiday by the sea so there's no return journey.

You'd still return at some point! But I know what you mean.

I'm in Norfolk and the logistics deter me. I've ridden the distance a few times, but not starting at night. I think it's annoying from anywhere but that London where the return coaches go.

Tempting as it might be to cycle from and to Worcester, my fitness definitely doesn't stretch that far.

2nd Dynamo, I caught the train from Northampton to London, rode to London Fields & ➡️🚵‍♂️ ➡️ to Dunwich. Carried on up to Lowestoft & met up with one of the drivers delivering to Morrisons there, put the bike in the trailer for a lift back to Kettering then ride the 12 miles back home..

No cars involved 😂

2nd Dynamo, I caught the train from Northampton to London, rode to London Fields & ➡️🚵‍♂️ ➡️ to Dunwich. Carried on up to Lowestoft & met up with one of the drivers delivering to Morrisons there, put the bike in the trailer for a lift back to Kettering then ride the 12 miles back home..

No cars involved 😂

I think in this context, a lorry counts as a car.

Only on the Ipswich line. Getting train to start, and from finish (via alternate lines) all works. Or make use of coach back to London. Solved problems.
