I'm suspecting that if this was made by a trendy manufacturer and cost £600 some people would be raving about its "retro purity" and " streamlined simplicity"

Probably true:laugh:

I couldn't find a use for it, but it seems to be being promoted as a cheap fun bike, the guy's not saying you could ride the TDF on it.

Read the OP. He's promoting it here as a commuter / city / pottering about bike, but not many people commute in cities without going on road, where that bike is both illegal and potentially dangerous.

I think there's a hint in there that this is not a serious bike. If you read the website it's clearly not being sold by a proper bike retailer. I appreciate the need to emphasise safety, but maybe a polite response might be something like, "Interesting bike, but can I just tell you that in its present set up your bike is technically illegal, here's what you have to do to make it safe and legal...... blah, blah, blah.......What's your bike specifically designed for anyway?" Giving the guy three pages of agro seems a tad territorial to me.

Oh come off it. Any poster whose first (and in this case only) post is an advertisement tends not to get an especially warm welcome.
