Sadly, this kind of thing from AA Gill is not out of the ordinary. He seems to have a habit of making forthright statements, shall we say. He probably prides himself on 'calling a spade a spade'.

There's no reason why we should, is there? Whilst her sexual orientation is pretty widely known, it does not affect her capacity to do her job and therefore should not form any part of a TV 'review'.

My thoughts are that her sexuality does not detract from her work. She has never used the "pink ticket" to gain advantage, and is simply a presenter.

I am quite enjoying the Britain By Bike programme and it is neither improved or diminished by AA Gill's "revelations"

I'm sure 'Andy in Sig' will be along shortly to tell us that dyke is a fine Anglo Saxon word and if we were to follow the enlightened example of Mr Gill and habitually use it to describe lesbians (which of course is a Greek word and as everyone knows, they are swarthy Mediterranean types who sponge off the EU), we would not only reclaim the word so it became stigma free but would probably cure said dykes and return them to the true path of bloke loving righteousness.

So normally Clare Balding doesn't say what she's thinking, except in this case when it accidentally slipped out, thereby betraying a part of her normal thought process and you're villifying AA Gill for saying things as he thinks it. At least I know AA Gill is a muppet, I just suspect Clare Balding is not as nice as she appears. It's just a case of double standards isn't it?
