Over here the Easter eggs taste like cardboard.

Anyone who didn't know different could even guess a linguistic connection with a well known hormone associated with being female.
That's generally not a rabbit hole I like to go down. Finding the origins of "hysteria" did not make me happy.

So, I just checked oxford. From the same source, oestrus comes from Late 17th century: from Greek oistros 'gadfly or frenzy'. Depressing, again.

Mrs Cube has disappeared to help her mum out with some octogenarian non-crisis or other, so I was left with the secret location of the Cube family traditional Easter egg hunt components. Up with the lark this morning I distributed them around the house and watched their little faces light up with glee as they scoured the house for little chocolatey treats, then diligently shared them equally before disappearing again, Cubette to work and Cubester to take his girlfriend clayshooting. I have a feeling that 18 yr olds still lay great store by family tradition.

Hey ho, it all comes from the Greek, no escaping it linguistically
I am fortunate enough to be able to scoff 2 lots of chocolate: one today, another when celebrating Greek Easter with my Cypriot and Greek pals :hungry:

Cheeky beggars! Orthodox Easter is not usually the same date as western Easter, and google tells me it's not until first of May, so they must be in Lent at the moment, and shouldn't be eating chocolates.

(I used to live in a suburb with a lot of Greeks. We'd know the date of their Easter when the bleating stopped, followed shortly by the smell of roast lamb)

....I expect many of you will be scoffing these this weekend, overdosing on chocolate, and a grand tradition for sure. Last year I arrived back in the UK a few days after Easter, and was looking forward to picking up a bargain egg or three at the local supermarket, but alas none to be found. Several shops later - still no joy.
This long-held misers chocfest must now be a thing of the past, I can only assume.
This year I'll be over there mid April, and my mum has already been tasked with having one waiting at the house on my arrival........:mrpig:

Our local Tesco are selling 3 for £10.

We get an egg each from work but otherwise we don't bother, although TVC's niece and her husband gave us a chocolate bunny each. A lovely gesture.
