I eat quite a bit of fresh fruit is normally at least one apple and an orange a day .

Looking at the label of a bag of Clementines has put me off a bit , dispite washing them before consumption I decided to Google them

" Imazalil and pyrimethanil are both synthetic fungicides used in postharvest treatments to prevent spoilage in fruits like citrus. They are often used together in mixtures for enhanced effectiveness against mold and decay. However, concerns exist regarding imazalil's potential health risks, including being classified as a probable carcinogen by the EPA, while pyrimethanil has been identified as an environmental pollutant with potential cytotoxic effects. "

I might be mistaken* but don't you peel those before eating them.

* I don't eat fruit since an incident on a bus during a school trip, I get my Vitamin C from Vegetables like Peppers/Broccoli/Kale/Cabbage etc many of which contain more Vit C than fruit.

Indeed.

However, if the peel is contaminated with chemical residue and one is concerned about the residue, it might be prudent to wash hands and rinse fruit before eating. Especially as it is easy to consume 2 or 3 clementines at one sitting as they are so small.

Or look for fruit without the chemical treatments. Good luck with that.

Yes you do and like others say wash them as well .

We also sometimes use the zest in cooking.

Apples wash yes as usual but I don't peel them before eating

When I was a kid we ate all sorts of fruit without washing our hands no harm ever came to us. We certainly would peel things like that with a skin but nowadays everything has labels to read, or not.

It isn't just fruit though. There's a wide range of post-harvest treatments, both chemical and non-chemical, which are used to "improve" shelf-life for perishable food stuffs.

It’s frightening how much chemicals we both digest and come into contact with on a daily basis.

EVERYTHING we come into contact with or digest is chemicals. It is what all matter is made up of.

Being artificially produced doesn't make them inherently less good or more good than natural chemicals.

I think Mo intuitively meant the word 'harmful' before 'chemicals'.

And for the veggie/vegans among us, apples and some other fruits are washed in animal based shellac, & other substances, to preserve them.
