Dear seller,

Your friend contacted me last week after I texted his mobile, to tell me that the printer had been stolen from his van and I would therefore be refunded through Paypal.

I can't see any sign that this has happened yet, so I'd be grateful if you would set it in motion

Thanks

So I left him a text, he called back the next day to say that he'd had a van stolen with the printer and a bunch of other stuff in it too, and promised me a refund. Well, fair does I suppose.

Dear coruskate_net,

I have given you his personal mobile number, his name is Jason. As i have already stated the item is nothing to do with me, and my friend has been dealing with it all up to now including any messages. he asked me to pass you his number as i can't answer anything to do with the item. have you tried leaving a text message? if not you can try contacting him on his other mobile no i have: 07xxxxxxxxx. i am sorry i can't help you any more than i have, please give the other number a try. as i said before he can't always answer due to to either driving or work meetings.

Dear seller,

What's your friend's name and does he have any other contact details? He's not answering the phone when I call it (no voicemail either)

I appreciate that you probably only did this as a favour to him and are now placed in an unfortunate position not of your making, but it's now been two full weeks since the auction ended. In your previous email you wrote that you "will be taking the parcel down to the depot tomorrow [Tuursday] and post it" - did you not do this?

I'd really appreciate it if you find out from him what is happening and then let me know, because you advertised this item with three day dispatch and I've been kind of left in the lurch here.

Dear seller,

Thanks for letting me know. Still no sign of the printer, though - when do you expect it to arrive? Do you have a tracking number or anything? I'd like to make sure that somebody is present to sign for it.

Now, I mean, OK, shoot happens and if I'd had my van broken into I'd probably think that refunding Ebay purchasers of the stuff that had been in it was the least of my worries. But what kind of person lends their ebay account out to someone else and then uses that as an excuse not to deliver on the stuff being sold under their identity? "seller" is naught but an iota away from getting negative feedback and whatever kind of other shoot I can throw at him via ebay, just for the general don't-give-a-toss attitude. Am I being unreasonable?

Certainly a case where ebay should be contacted. Lending out the account is the seller's problem. The are still liable under ebay rules for the sale and everything to do with it.

That said I wouldn't hold out much hope.

You certainly reinforce my buying rule, which is upper limit £50 unless I can collect the item and pay cash to the seller, and I'm sure ebay & paypal wouldn't approve of that one!

£60 all in, so marginally over your limit. I am waiting to see if the Paypal dispute resolution procedure comes up with the goods, but the bottom line is that it was paid on a card and I can always tell the card company to chargeback.
