edge 200 woes

my garmin edge isnt picking up sattelites for ages into a ride (sometimes when im nearly stoppedd and off bike !!! any ideas ,does it need reset or something ,it works eventually but it takes ages ,my mates is about 3 b seconds to accquiresattelites ,mines takes ages

Are you setting off on the ride before it has locked on?
Also are you starting from the same location each time you set off?

im starting from various locations,honestly iv tried and waited ten minutes for it to lock on ,i cant wait that time standing waiting on it every time i go out on bike

don't know the unit, but first thing to try is a factory reset. That should return it to the state it was when you first unboxed it, and will fix problems if they are software related.

Don't know about any fixes but doesn't sound normal. I usually switch mine on in the house while I put on my jacket, helmet and gloves and by the time I take the bike out it is usually locked on straight away or only a few seconds later.

Mine sometimes takes a couple of minutes, never more than that. Gives me the 'indoor' option but then finds a signal. Can be frustrating but not a problem and rare. Gez

Sure I read somewhere about deleting your past rides off the device helps

I experience similar delays while my edge 500 or 800 locate satellites. I tend to switch the gps unit on and wait, or check the bike over, check tyre pressure etc, by the time that is done the gps unit is ready to ride. Also, not moving around too much seems to help with locating satellites, as does having a clear open view of the sky away from tall buildings and trees.

FWIW, My 200 is the quickest of all the units I've had to pick up a signal, I did find with all my units however, they start doing things funny if they become overloaded with data and I have to delete some ride history.

yup agree with other other posters. Very quick to lock on to satellites, however I do find it best to delete some of the old rides

Especially on the edge 200/500 / any garmin gps device that doesn't store ride data on a separate micro sd card.
