How massively irritating. I don't cycle into Edinburgh, I commute over Kincardine Bridge. It would be helpful to know what is wrong with the cyclepath?
However this article contains all the poorly conceived and lazy journalism which I'd expect from the Post. Its annoying, but the Post's opinion of anything is completely irrelevant to me. Its full of witless drivel and not in a good way!

This sort of article is intolerable.

Its a case of victim blaming. Cyclists are not hit and killed/ injured because they are cycling on a road, but are hit and killed because someone was not driving or riding with the requisite degree of care.

Newspapers / talking heads etc would not dare write articles saying it is a womans fault for going out on a night that she gets raped.

Nor would you blame an Asian or black person for being the victim of a racist attack simply for walking in a "white" area of a town

Yet somehow it is ok to blame cyclists for being the victim of crimes

When my dear old Gran bought the Sunday Post, many moons ago, the only part of it I ever found worth reading was "The Broons" and "Oor Wullie". I haven't read the Post for about 35 years now, and it seems as if nothing has changed.

The most worrying aspect of this story is that some flat capped, driving glove wearing, noddy dog on parcel shelf, tartan traveling rug in boot type reader, might just decide that a punishment pass can be justified on the A90. Unfortunately, the SP readers are of the generation who might not have the skills required to do it safely .

Consider this. Suppose Mr MCKENDRY penned an article criticising black people for not paying "pavement tax". He then solicits the views of avowed racists who confirm black people should stay off pavements because they haven't paid for them. That sort of nonsense would be bread and butter to knuckle-dragging racists. It could even enourage racist assaults.

That's what this article is like. It panders to prejudiced, ignorant people. It's irresponsible, hateful, inciteful and recklessly stupid.

It's not journalism in any real sense, it's dog-whistle hackery by a third rate gutter journalist, and it may well have made my bike ride to work more dangerous.

Are there people with an irrational hatred of people based on nothing but their mode of transport? Yes, as the inane comments from the ABD confirm (The ABD had within their numbers one "Captain Gatso" who sets fire to speed cameras. An arsonist who destroys public propewrty, in other words. The ABD, based on their total number of members, represent fewer than 0.002% of British drivers. Asking their opinion on this matter is like asking the BNP to comment on the safety of muslim women.

I'm frankly amazed that any editor would allow this to pass. It is disgusting rabble-rousing and if an aggressive driver has their prejudice bolstered by this piece of filth article then Mr MCKENDRY may well end up with blood on his hands if that driver uses his vehicle as a weapon to bully, intimidate or injure a vulnerable road user.

I would encourage readers to report this article to the PCC, I think you could cite hate speech, let alone the fallacies, ignorance and downright dishonesty Mr MCKENDRY displays.
