Electronic shifting thoughts.

My mate got it because he used to have trouble shifting (no mechanical sympathy) and was always wrapping the chain around the bottom bracket or breaking links. He had the same issues with Di2. I built him a fixie.

How on earth did he manage it with Di2 other than never lubing or cleaning the drive train.

I don’t think his failings with mechanical gears or Di2 are result of the systems. I wouldn’t allow him out on his own.

I thought that the front changer used the most power but I guess it depends how often you change chain rings to how soon they run down.

yeah I’m not sure tbh. I reckon I change the rear probably 8-10 times more often than the front, so just assumed that would run out first. Never had an issue with either though, I just charged them every few hundred miles or so. Still on the original batteries!

I’ve a mixed fleet of mechanical and electronic bikes now and to be honest they’re much the much, when well setup there’s nothing in it. I think electronic wins for clean lines, but a well cabled external rim braked bike looks lush. In fact I’ve just bought a new rim braked bike.
