Friction shifting for the win.
The latest bike with Sram 12 speed wifi is flat bar, I have fitted some inner bar ends, which give a similar position to been on the hoods. All of my 3 bikes have rim brakes, dropped bars and 9,10,11
Not noticed it mentioned on this thread but I understood some, if not all, systems could be programmed to avoid cross chaining and move throught the gears sequentially as such.
39 x 28 just as you're going into that sprint for the line? One of major disadvantages with Electronic shifting is that other people can start changing your gears through their phone apps.🤥🤣

Seeing as I haven't used the drops since TT days in the early 1980's I don't miss them, but having the extra control of the flat bars off road is definitely a bonus.

Narrowist I have run recently have been 700x28, I have 3 rideable bikes at the moment 700x35 700x45 and the MTB 700x52, I have just been gifted a bike in bits, it has 700x25 fitted but if I eventually get it on the road I will fit the widest tyres the frame will take, it has an immovable alloy seatpost in a carbon frame, the good news is the id of the stuck seatpost is 27.2mm so salvageable, busy scraping the paint off at the moment, if all good I will polish and lacquer the plain carbon, it has alloy inserts where the cables enter the frame, these are slightly corroded, so a good inspection is needed.I hav`nt had straight bars since 1972 but then I have not cycled off road. By the same token all my bikes run 700x25.
Is that the modern day equivalent to reaching for the dowtube shifter of your ride companion?
Yep.😏
