Can you imagine the amount of hoo har there will be when The Queen finally snuffs it?

But I don't think there will be the same hysteria. There will be blanket media coverage, of course, and a lot of people will be sad, (or not), but I don't think there will be the same utter weirdness....

On the day of Diana's funeral, I had an OU tutorial session. The tutor came in, looked at the assembled class and said "Is it me, or has the country gone bonkers?" We all agreed that we felt like a strange minority because we weren't beating our breasts in hysterical sorrow.

True, but it's still gonna be BIG!

We were very much in the minority too. In fact, I felt more for William at the time because he's the same age as me, so I was able to relate how bad losing his Mum must have been, never mind how Harry must have been feeling!

Going back to 3BM's original post.
I also still remember seeing a newspaper sign (in Wimbledon) saying 'Elvis is dead!'
Never forgotten it.

I remember when we first moved over here from Belfast, we were staying at my Grandma's. One afternoon, she went to fetch the local paper as it came through the letter box, and exclaimed "Oh my god, they've killed Mountbatten."

I only had a shaky idea who he was, as I was 10, but I knew it was terribly important. And of course, I had a pretty good idea who 'they' were.
