Delete anything like that and don't open attachments - especially if the email is from friends and appears a bit odd. I know someone who looks to have got themselves infected, and we get an odd email from them every so often with an attachment. Gets deleted.

Can't be fake, he's not won anything and they're not offering him money(upon receipt of a release fee). They're simply asking for payment to be made. They've sent him a bill for e-mails, from the Midland Bank, he never knew he'd lost, that they recovered.

I sometimes find E-Mails like that in my Spam Folder, occasionally the odd one makes it to the In Box, they all get deleted.

There's a trend at the moment for the attachments to such email being Word documents which no doubt have a nefarious payload.

Which is slightly worrying, a word document would work on my Linux box, though I doubt if the pay load would.

The Word documents in question are usually very small in size, around 40 to 50kb, and more than likely aimed at Windows users. However if it any doubt don't open attachments of any sort unless you are expecting it AND it's a trusted sender.
