Encouraging?

I'm rather encouraged by this report of a successful prosecution of a driver who "clipped" a cyclist. Reading the report, it doesn't sound like the worst of incidents (although as a cyclist any contact can be pretty scary) yet the police, CPS and magistrates were prepared to act against a pensioner.

At least he didn't contest the charge. It seems a genuine mistake on his part, and he had the manners and sense to stop and check if she was ok. Perhaps he'll now consider giving up driving for good, though with the standard of driving coming from much younger motorists out there i don't think that it's entirely an age thing!

He needs a new solicitor if they don't know the difference between mitigation and defence.
