Interesting, but cyclists would just crash into the stupid driver when (s)he leaps out without looking, instead of the stupid driver's door when (s)he flings it open without looking!

I like the concept for police cars. Allows you to jump out faster and start running in any direction a lot quicker when chasing people!

The idea is very good but no doubt it will add to the cost of the cars quite considerably, so we may not see many (if any) models having these installed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would imagine that the extra manufacturing costs are considerable as well as the extra weight and it would be impossible to moisture-proof and rust-proof the cavity skin under the car. Look at the width of the sill as well; lots of people would find that hard to cope with, especially less able-bodied.
