Having just got my first smartphone Nokia Lumia 520, I have installed Endomondo and tried it out this morning. It all worked and I even managed, eventually, to upload my route to Facebook!

I understand that my wife is able to track me live when I am out but I cannot find directions how. I assume I will have to install endomondo onto her computer as she wont touch my laptop. Does she have to have her own account or can she log in using my details. What do I need to do on the mobile. This morning I had Wi-Fi and Data switched off, but I assume that to transmit to the home computer I will need a data or internet connection. I have a 500mb per month allowance so how much data would running Endo use? All advice welcomed.

Finally, with the Dunwich Dynamo coming up will one of those external battery packs allow me an extended use of the phone overnight or will I need to shut it down for a couple of hours to recharge it.

Sorry for so many questions. I have looked online but cannot find answers that I can really understand. I admit to finding it all rather complicated.

The whole world can see your route, at least until you set some privacy !
It works like this,Wifey creates an account, adds you as a friend and the home page shows you out via a message timeline which she can then click to view.

Don't really bother with Facebook, it should already be in Endomondo which is a facebook type thing. Live tracking is another default setting I think.

Brilliant, exactly what we needed. Thanks.

And if you don't want to faff about creating two Endomondo accounts, she can just log in on her computer with your details.

I don't think Endo will use much data - it's things like films, music and photos that eat data. Switching off your phone to save power won't work - all the Lumias I've tried switch on when plugged in as soon as they've got enough charge to do so.

On strava you can use it without mobile data. Some guys disable internet to avoid usage + increase battery life whilst out riding.
Is that how the live tracking works? Via mobile data or just GPS?

strava and endomondo are pretty similar. Both work without data, but with endomondo and data on, you can be tracked remotely. So you need both data and gps on.

@compo just turn endomondo on, wait a minute or two, and go to your workout page. You should see a map with "LIVE" written on it, with the dot on your house.

Looking at my phone, it looks like I use about 1mb of data per 10km. So DD should take around 20mb or so.

I used to it when I did the DD in 2012. My partner was following my journey and posting to face book about it. I disappeared from endomondo at 3am, apparently.

For a battery, I did 1100km with 2 of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000UH46YY (and data off). One of them will be fine. Just bring at least 2 cables, as cable failure is the most common problem I have had, so always pack a spare.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions. I have the basics worked out, it's fairly straightforward. I haven't tried the tracking yet.

In all honesty once the novelty wears off I wonder how much I will use Endo.

FYI - if you have a Nokia Windows Phone, Endomondo uses gps to maps downloaded to the phone, so very little data use
