I'm probably older than you, NB, but I grew up with the likes of Alan Knott and Bob Taylor as the England wicketkeepers.

and can probably remember Les Ames and Godfrey Evans - however, it is not one test ago that Bairstow took nine catches and made one very good run out - the two chances were difficult - finger tips in front of first - maybe if he dived better he might of got them - maybe if Cook at first had been 6" up he would have got them

yes it would be wicked if there was a wicketkeeper in the mould of the likes of Alan Knott available - but with the way cricket is structured now we will be unlikely to see the likes of him and Taylor again

There's some suggestions that Ames' keeping wasn't as strong as his batting. Post-war he certainly didn't keep to my knowledge and contemporary reports from the 32/3 tour suggested he only had the gloves for his runs (which were few and far between in the tests).

5 for 1 after 4 overs. Good start by England opening with 2 left armers, Topley and Willey.
Neither of whom I've seen bowl
