A century for Rooooot and a half-century for Moeen.
Yes, I like the look of Hameed. Let's hope this isn't too early for him.Well done @User482 ...you saved me having to create the thread
Good day one batting track and thankfully England batsmen are making the best of it. Certainly a lot more benign that those in Bangladesh. Nice to see Hameed get a few runs on debut. Son #2 played against him in a school game a couple of years ago (son was 4th year at the time). Had him dropped....but that was the one and only chance, Hameed clattered him around the ground thereafter

That's a class 'wagon wheel.'
To have that variety of scoring shots at Test level against the no.1 Test side in world cricket and in their backyard speaks volumes for Root's mental strength and character, technique and application, especially as he had (by his standards) a poor series in Bangladesh recently.
450+ will be a 'safe' score by England. There are five Tests and losing the first one would make it a difficult task to bounce back from (although they managed it last time around).
Think positive...450+ will give us a real foundation to win the game and go up in the series. For sure if England has the mentality to avoid defeat then they won't win
@Dayvo Are you watching it on the telly in Norway? I feel the need to watch some cricket.

Also a very good wagon wheel. I'm actually surprised how few drives through the cover areas he has, given that he is a good and confident driver, perhaps even Gower-esque at times.
Hope he and Stokes can bat beyond lunch tomorrow, mind you, there's still Bairstow and Woakes to come in; two capable batsmen.
All in all, a very good 1st day for England.
