Insomnia strikes and the 3rd Test at Mohali starts. England won the toss and are batting. 18 - 0 with Cook looking a bit streaky so far.

56 - 3! Root made it to the first drinks break but no further. Not the best of starts....

It seems that Hameed got a great ball and everyone else gave it away. 119-4.

Just seen the review of the wickets and you're right. I think the poorest were Ali and Stokes; both dismissals down to rank poor shot selection. Ali hooking and Stokes inexplicably charging the spinner

I'm a glass half full cricket fan. With Woakes and Rashid still to come there's no reason why England can't drag themselves towards 300 and make a game of it

England limped to 268-8 after several batsmen had got themselves in, then wrong shot selection/mindset sent them back to the pavilion. Can't see much resistance being offered tomorrow morning, so the England bowlers will have to bowl well and attackingly: you can't set defensive fields to these Indian batsmen who know these conditions so well.

Day one to India - four(?) days to go.

England doing surprisingly well considering the wasted batting on day 1. They've got India to 204 - 6 with Stokes just having taken Kohli's wicket. A couple of times recently I've been pleasantly surprised by England's resilience so I'm tempted towards cautious optimism.

Special mention for Stokes: for a player with such an explosive style, he's really done the hard work well with impressive amounts of application.
