Kiwis 198 all out - England win by 202 ^_^

Not the England performance or the result I was expecting this morning - it was like the teams had wandered into the wrong dressing rooms and swapped personalities - A wicked win by England - roll on Friday at the Oval - I suspect Southee and Anderson will reappear - see how many swallow this summer brings

I was privileged to be at Egbaston yesterday to witness England's best ODI performance ever. What talents Joe Root and Jos Buttler are. Just hope this is a new dawn for English limited overs cricket and not a flash in the pan.....

It'll be very interesting to see how the other ODIs go. After such a woeful World Cup (and in truth, 20 years of poor ODI displays), one swallow does not a summer make. Everything clicked into place yesterday; aggressive batting, good bowling and fielding. I was particularly pleased for Rashid who was treated a bit shabbily on the WI tour recently. I suspect there may be some regrets now regarding not playing him in that series

Yup - I think the Kiwi's were overconfident yesterday - win toss - put England in - knock them over for a modest score - bash runs

11-1 from the 1st over. It's not going to last 50 overs.

But faced with a huge score and their talisman McCullum out in the first over - Guptill not long afterwards - Taylor and Williamson had too big a hill too climb - and any belief had gone - however, they are a pretty robust team - come Friday they will ready to come out firing again - England need to keep to their plan - play confident not reckless cricket

A stunning match. Great to see England go for it from the off and not let up. In fact, if there's a lesson to be learned there (for England) it's that they can play that style of game, and not the slow steady accumulation of opener runs and give it loads with wickets in hand in the last 20 overs.

The 50 over game has changed methinks. It's the 20 over game's big brother now, not test cricket's son. Teams are thinking differently now (400 is the new 300) and England have been slow to adapt. Let's see what the next game brings.

Two highlights for me from yesterday: seeing how England didn't panic & start flailing about gormlessly after that disastrous opening, and seeing Stokes's reaction to getting out - these young players really give a damn! And sometimes that can make all the difference. Oh, and one other - Rashid tying the middle-order up in knots - that was fun!

Roll on Friday - should be a cracker.
