Today, I'm cycling along and I'm going over the Charles River, Dedham, Massachusetts on the way to work. There are leaves on the ground, the air was crisp and had that pungent vegetation odour, and the light held a cold clear Autumnal quality -and my eyes happened to skim by a really swanky Mercedes stuck in traffic. Yep, I have to say I thought "you know, I'm really lucky. I wouldn't want to be in that Mercedes!" Truly, I am a lucky person to be able to commute by bicycle and enjoy it so much; it's the simple things in life.

Oh yeah, aside from dogs, I saw a jet black squirrel cross my path, a very large frog, two rabbits and about 10 tree stumps caused by beavers -I wondered who had chopped down that tree near the path the other day!

I am from South London will swap your journey with mine any time. Mine consists of trying to miss dog turds and owners and not trying to get myself killed

Hang on a tic, you live in USA, have a picture of Marmite (yuck btw) as your profile pic and you used the word Autumnal... Are you actually British or is this whole 'Britishisation' thing really happening?!

The other day I was trundling up a stinky hill and a Nova full of youths thought it would be encouraging to lean out the window shouting "come on, you can do it!"
I smiled hoping it was good natured as having recently moved to a much better place I'm still enjoying not being leered at, shouted at, spat at and having things thrown at me...
When I got closer to the nearest village I hit a load of traffic so followed a fellow cyclist in carefully cycling down the footpath.
I approached the Youths in their stinky green car whose window was still down and they saw me and grinned, I whizzed past them shouting Come on, keep up, you can do it! :-)

How dare you use the word "yuck" when referring to Marmite?

No, British born and bred, from Sheffield originally. Just been over here getting married, having 3 kids and a mortgage these past 22 years.... My wife and kids have picked up some of my phrases though -I did see the BBC article on Britishisms, not sure I believe it that much. Interestingly though, I happened to be flipping through the channels the other day and caught an American Football commentator saying "right through the wickets" when a pass was thrown too low to the ground and went between someones legs. Very strange I thought. Also, people at work think when I use "rumpy pumpy" (referring to a story recently about a Maine town that had a prostitution scandal), it is hilarious!

I like posting here because I miss the English sense of humour and as a whole, British people take driving and road usage much more seriously. Nobody seems that bothered over here (at least in New England) if you don't follow road rules.....

Had to bring the Merc today, and every day so far this week, as I've been working in the deep south (aka Southampton). Back in my home town tomorrow, though, so it'll be the first cycle commute of the week.

Marmite is lovely. I used it as a contraceptive for 18 months when I was still married to my ex. I won't hear a word said against wonderful Marmite.

I had a nice commute in to work yesterday and saw a fox. In fact I stopped riding and watched the fox for a while before he disappeared into the bushes. Lots of squirrels around yesterday and I think that I rode through Jay central.

Where did you rub it in?

I adore your part of Mass, and being from the Suffolk / Essex border here in the UK I recognised at least 70% of the place names as being local to my home town!

I've visited a friend in New Bedford a couple of times and long to bring my bike over, I remember the roads being incredibly smooth!

I took a sunny autumnal ride down the tow path today and smiled as the rats frolicked in the fallen leaves. Ok there were only two rats and they were more scampering for cover than frolicking but it was on the tow path.
