I usually switch energy supplier every few years (before a price hike, or when my contract runs out etc).

On the whole, I've found them all to be very disorganised. They (so in effect we) must lose millions of pounds from this.

They are one big monopoly who traditionally strangle alternative energy projects at birth, so that we are forced to buy their product at over-inflated prices, so that the select few can amass huge personal wealth at the expense of the rest of us. Those select few also have enormous influence behind the scenes of national governments and they have their fingers in many pies, thereby giving them the power to ruthlessly stamp on any technology that gives individuals the ability to become truly "energy neutral" or "energy positive" - i.e. giving individual households the ability to generate their own energy and be free of the bondage of the big energy companies.

Sorry but in those circumstances I would just feel a bit sorry for myself and pay the bill - I'm a bit old fashioned I suppose.

Agree.

I'd say your as much to blame for not checking your account to ensure the payments are going out, especially on a new account. £900 is roughly £80/£90 a month. How did you not notice that much! Anyway they have offered you 10% off which is v.generous IMO

I do agree though they seem to have been rubbish at dealing with the issue, in my book whenever I have had a utility problem they get a letter if I cant resolve it with 1 phone call. I've also taken complaints to Ofgem who are very good.

surely the point of the rant is to warn us. And, yes, I've been warned. I wouldn't touch Eon with a bargepole. So, thankyou, Mr. P.

For what it's worth I've never had any problems with EDF and they are about the cheapest.

(this post has been paid for by EDF Energy Viral Lobbying, and the poster will shortly receive a new Dura-Ace groupset)

Its a good rant as well  It tells us two things:

Always check your account to make sure money gets paid to who you owe
Never trust an energy company to do what they say

On the other hand - if you want 10 months free energy and are then prepared to do a runner this could be just the ticket!

I use ecotricity for electricity and gas supply, and can highly recommend them. They do a variable direct debit based on what you actually use, too.

Ecotricity were useless when I was with them.

Couldn't organise the proverbial booze up in a brewery. Would never touch them again.

what are ecotricity fees like compared to the other companies? What are their green credentials and their ethos really like?

Ecotricity & Good energy are probably the two best suppliers in terms on green credentials. Ecotricity build renewables capacity and don't generate energy through burning fossil fuels...so I would rather that my money went to them.

I believe that they are trying to source renewable gas from landfill sites and the like, though the percentage in their supply is very small at the moment.
