Anyone doing the Etape next year? The logistics for this one look rubbish. Long drive from UK or a 3-4 hour drive from the nearest airport.
And the actual route is a bit meh..

No. Route Briançon to Col d'Izoard, near Italian border. Fly into Turin and cycle over (circa 120km). Why would you want to drive (3-4 hour drive - 80 miles; really?) when you have your bike with you?

Actually I looked at Turin as well but the flights were only weekends which didn't correspond with Etape timings. I usually organise a group of ten of us for a 5 day trip from Fri - Tues taking in a few extra rides pre and post Etape. The Alps or Pyrenees have been so much easier logistically.

You could do La Marmotte instead: a proper day out in the mountains, and it's circular.
