Don't worry about it. You don't ask, you'll never find out.
For me, given where you plan to ride, I'd go heavier/stronger build rather than a lighter build and use that to build on.

Have you considered the Tongscheng TSDZ8 torque sensing motor as a replacement. Only if you are unsuccessful with reprogramming. TSDZ8 has open firmware I believe
