I think I'd ride back with them. I know what it's like to be off the pace, and I'd appreciate some sympathetic company.

Give him a wheel and head home via your favourite cafe - if he's a good mate he will buy the coffees.

When I first started cycling with Arch's friends I was so unfit in comparison that Every now and again Spandex fell back and gave me a push!
However, they all waited for me at various junctions* so I could catch up and the pace slowed considerably. All that helped me to feel accepted and to enjoy the ride. I am now much fitter and happier knowing that I can keep up or catch up.

*Only snag was that they all rested at the junction for five minutes, saw me approaching and set off again. It meant that they had a rest every few miles and I didn't! Still made me a lot fitter though.

Exactly what happened to me until I found groups with the right pace!

It's soul destroying when you keep getting dropped. If a friend offers to see you home, and manages to make it seem like they wanted to go home anyway, you feel better.

If he says "go on" then you go on. It's not as if he's a woman and you have to work out what the feck he's really meaning is it?

I am with Noodley and User76 also providing he knew his way home.

If i was the slow cyclist, I would do the same and finish 10-15 mins later. At least it would have given them time to get the pint or the cake in!
