etrex or edge?

I'm looking into a GPS unit and what I'll mostly be using it for is downloading maps from garmin connect and following a route, then dumping the data on strava. The edge units will do that I know but the maps of the etrex will come in handy when I go exploring. So am I able to get a map from garmin connect, put it on an etrex unit and dump that data on strava too? I'm not bothered about cadence or HR so it'll probably the edge 200 or etrex20.

Yes,but keep in mind that the 200/500/510 only have a breadcrumb trail and no actual mapping.

I have an etrex and edge and find the edge easier to follow, the etrex while good for walking using routes or tracks is not any better when cycling as you don't have time to follow a compass so following tracks or breadcrumbs is really the same with both.

strava doesnt recognise my etrex and i have to download file to computer then to strava while on edge 705 it uploads automatically straight from device . i choose 705 nearly everytime - the only time i go for etrex is on weekenders where recharging battery is an issue for the 705

Cheers , I knew about the breadcrumb trail as most of the people at my local CC have the edge units which is where garmin connect comes in as they put the club run routes on there. I don't need the ANT+ features that the edge 500/800 has so I think it's the Etrex for me then.

Dakota 20, brilliant. Strava doesn't recognize it but just press the upload from file button and select the files on the unit easy as. I've had gps units without maps before and wouldn't bother with one now.

Looks like the Etrex isn't able to DL courses from Garmin connect. So perhaps it's not what I want. Shame .
