Another thought; I assume the Eurovelo route uses cycle paths when available, be aware that surfaces can range from smooth tarmac to rutted tracks, for instance the one running along the canal between Rennes and Dinan is lovely in the dry but if it's wet you'll be covered in gritty mud within a couple of miles.

How to get from Bibao (or possible Santander) to Biarritz - what is the cycling like, what are the trains like ?

How feasible is it to just turn up at one of the Brittany ports and be able to buy a ticket for 2 people and 2 bikes for Portsmouth on the next available ferry ?

Thanks
Andrew
Hi Cisamcgu

I did a similar route to Dave, http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/CB2012B
I took the Alsa coach from Santander to Irun (on the French border) and cycled from there to Hendaye (in France) in 15 minutes. From the coach the Spanish hills looked daunting, but maybe the coastal road is easier. Despite all the comments about walking the bike onto the coach I had to bag it up (Alsa sold me a bag for €9 I recall) which was the only hassle I had on the journey.

I turned up at Cherbourg and bought a ticket for me and my bike with no issues at.

Enjoy your ride

Chris
