The reason given was that Winstanleys order in the light when you buy from them and dispatch within 2 days. That means it's not immediately available and so they don't have to price match.
Similar thing happened to me.

I thought it ironic that, in my case, Evans would do exactly the same thing. That is, they didn't actually stock the item so they'd have to order it in. Needless to say, I didn't order it from them!

Evans obviously aren't compelled to price match everything, it is their policy after all, but it did strike me as amusing.

I got a price match in-store in Chiswick for a Kryptonite series 4 d-lock.

I printed the website page from All Terrain Cycles and took it in. I even had the shopping cart page with me showing the carriage in case they wanted to include that (which they didn't).
The website doesn't even show that they have stock.

I had another web site printout with which did show they had stock but I didn't need it.

So I got a £50 lock for £32.50

Can I ask, what is the point? If it's cheaper somewhere else, why not buy it elsewhere? It doesn't look like you'll get it any cheaper...just for the same price?

Is I bein' stuupid or sumin?

Well I've just been into the store and they matched the price without hesitation.

I was going to suggest this.

I've had stuff matched at Evans plenty of times. Last time I just found the webpage on my phone and showed it to the sales guy.

I guess the web ordering guys are more anal.

Thomas: I guess because then you can get it there and then. At least that's why I've done it. Saves ordering online, paying delivery and waiting when you can just wander into the shop, show them proof and you get it there and then. Then you also have a go on it before handing over the cash and have easy recourse if anything goes wrong.

Evans might be closer, or have cheaper delivery costs...

I prefer to buy over the counter where possible (easier to take stuff back if there's a problem) but use the internet to compare prices.

Sounds like going into Evans is the way to do these 'price match' things.

I sent the information to Evans that the MUVI Atom camera whihc they had at £99.99 could be had from Amazon at £64. Could they match that? No, they couldn't. They didn't even reply in acknowledgement to my question

Technically the website does say that postage is included in the overall cost...but fair enough about getting them from your local shop. I thought people were just buying them online.

A successful price match! I wanted an Abus Granite U-lock. Price on Evans website £80.99, or £89.99 in store. I found it at www.discountcyclesdirect.co.uk for £49.99 so quite a difference.

I should really have just gone ahead and bought it from discountcyclesdirect but preferred to deal with a better known company. Evans did the price match so it's now on order.

I got a price match by printing off an internet price on a hope vision 1 and taking it in to the camden store without any problems. that was a few years ago though.
