I bought an MTB for 30 quid off a work colleague 6 years ago... OK, it's had one new wheel, new tyres, headset replacement, 1x new chain, but otherwise, it's been ace... and it's done about 4,000 miles since I bought it.

My Alpkit Gourdon 20 rucksack. Only £20 but spent 6 months on my rack carrying my tent and other stuff on tour and still has loads of life in it. I strap it onto the rack but also put the clips go round the seatpost for additional security. The bungee cords are great for stuffing a jacket under during the day, or carrying a loaf of bread and I put my fuel bottle in the mesh pockets on the side. And I've recently found it's great for touring with a folding bike and catching the train as I can carry it on my back when transporting my gear and folded bike through a station.

A bike for my daughter - £8 off ebay

Virtually new - seller bought it for gradndaughter for when she came to stay, which wasn't often.

My girl been riding for 4 years and can get another out of it. Will be a hand-me-down to her younger sister and I'm sure it'll last another 5/6 years with her

'Boss' tower scaffolding. Really easy to put up and work from and a heck of a lot safer and easier than using a ladder. Got it 2nd hand off ebay, very, very cheap.

Same with mine. I got a 35' tower for £100 from 'Loot' and it is so worth while and so much safer to use then a long ladder.

My other 'best find is the B&Q Pro Trimsaw.

It was about £15 and showed promise. The battery was good for 8' of 18mm plywood but it then took a day to recharge. I made an adaptor so it now uses my DeWalt batteries and a single 14.4V battery can now cut 30' of 18mm ply continuously, more with rests, and it chrages in 1 hour.

It has been so good that when I tried to buy another B&Q took them off the shelves, not reduce to clear, just removed from sale.

I'd happily have another and some more tungsten tipped blades.

My bubs trailer.....Old thread link ----->> https://www.cyclechat.net/
Bought it for £50 off Ebay, used it for 3years, did over 2,000 miles, loaded with 2 children & camping gear over just about every terrian imaginable.
They have now outgrown it & although working fine it has started to look a bit shabby, so figured not re-sellable. It has now been modified & is reguarly used for carting shooping around - it brought home 2 grow bags & 20L of bark chippings last week!

Leatherman Supertool. An absolute bargain at £20 on Ebay a couple of years ago. I use it at least two or three times a week. I've repaired bikes, scooters, motorbikes and even bits of wall with it.

A Valentines card for a girl I had the hots for. Repaid with interest

like it and cheaper than a bunch of flowers.

Different perspective - but arm warmers count as my most surprising purchase in that I was not expecting them to be quite as useful as they are.

Pat Chapman's Curry Club's Indian Restaurant Cookbook

Every recipe that I've used has delivered successful high quality curries, naans, and side dishes that have been universally praised by all who have eaten them.

It's been the only cook book that I trust one hundred percent. I am accustomed to being disappointed with cook books. Pat Chapman's book is exceptional.

(get this) The battery on my backup Samsung mobile, inherited from my then-girlfriend. Rechargeable batteries lose their ability to hold charge? Especially if stored drained? Not this one. I've left it on a shelf for two years, come back and a) it's still got enough juice to switch on, and b) will still hold a useable and respectable (ie, multi-day) charge. I suspect it may contain Kryptonite.

Now that I've said that of course, it'll catch fire and burn my house down or render Superman powerless or something.

My best bike I got built as a 19/20 year old - It's still my best bike 20 years later....love it.... I won't post a picture.... as you've all seen it....

Worked out a flaming bargain. I knew I couldn't afford a new rear mech if crashed..... never did, and it's still on all the original kit..... usual wear parts have been replaced.
