I walk out of the job which pissed them off, well my reason for leaveing that job are my own, they did contact me and I said I would try and finish the work off, but emailed them a few weeks later to inform them due to changes I could no longer complete the work and they would have to get some one else.

What gets me is there 100s of developers out there wanting work and they are bugging me with this.

It just dose not make sence to me.

That sounds fair enough. I've only rung him twice since May with regards to work stuff.

I actually felt really bad about it - but the company(my former employer) wanted to make my position redundant. I was on the phone for an hour at a time to them - so when I found another job, it would have been unprofessional / unfair to do it in their time(new employers).

I am not they keep emailing me I set the mail server to bounce all there messages back to them, but they are not getting the hint they are using other addresses to mail me so I just add them to the black list. Think they will get the message in the end.

I would suggest they have a cheek .

But you may love this story .A chap i knew was an overhead crane driver in a foundry .
His job went in a round of redundancies .So he had some time off .Then registered with an agency .They placed him in a position ,in the factory he had worked at driving the same crane .He thought it was hilarious and stayed there years after ..You coudn't make it up .

Same thing happened to a friend of mine. He was made redundant, but is back doing the same job, but with a different company in the consortium.

As for the OP. £50 for a DBA is too low, send them a bill for your time spent so far answering the phone at £40 and hour and explain that further work will be charged at £75/hour.

Had the same situation about 10 years ago. I was asked to do some updating on a project I'd been made redundant from. The poor dears couldn't find anyone else who could do it.

I asked for an obscene amount of money, paid in advance. They paid. The work took me 2 days. I ordered a brand new car the day the cheque cleared and paid cash for it a few weeks later, followed by a very good holiday. If your knowledge &/or abilities have enough rarity value, and you don't care about pis*ing them off, then go for it. If you'll ever need a reference from them perhaps not!

You say you walked out but then said you would try to finish off the work but then changed your mind.

I'd make sure where you stand from a legal point if I were you, or you might be on sticky ground. I'm not saying you are wrong just that it's always best to check these things out before making a fuss!

P.S. you might have been better registering on a employment law forum rather the a cycling one :laugh:

I was made redundant a few years ago. During the interview I made it clear that I would be free to act as a consultant should the need arise. The git looked over his glasses at me and said "Oh, I don't think we'll be needing that." A week later they phoned me up and asked me to come in for a week. I got to name my price.

If you walked out of your job, Iron Fist, what did your contract say - did you work any notice you were required to? Obviously your reasons for walking out are your own, but personally I always feel it is worth leaving bridges unburned where possible, just in case your paths happen to cross again in the future. Even if it isn't really fair of them to press you to do this work now you're gone. It might be worthwhile offering to do it, but at a fair price to them and you.

What can they do to me, they can try and sue me. LOL I have no money to speek off, a jude can't order me to finish it and they can't throw me in prison. All they can do is not give me a refrence.

Well, they could keep asking you to complete the job (as per OP) if that's what the contract states. You might be in the wrong. I'm not saying you are but unless you check the contract you might be.

And people can still be sued even if they have no money.
