You can cycle in Kensington Palace Gardens from one of the entrances on Bayswater Road. You enter the path via Black Lion Gate which has a "drive" across the pavement so park vehicles can get in and out.

Four policemen- one was being very stroppy- were making cyclists get off their bikes and walk those two metres of drive today.

I for one can only applaud the well targeted use of my tax money on such a major issue.

That is a pretty narrow gate, I'm not surprised they expected cyclists to dismount and walk there. Sure, their time could be better spent, such as on mobile phone using drivers, but OTOH you've nothing to complain about by them enforcing that byelaw.

Presumably the police were Royal Parks and not the Met. They haven't got anything to do all day so have to get some statistics for the day so cyclists are easy targets.

I got stopped and lectured once in Kensington Gardens as I was not on the right path which is fair enough except that it was 7am on a dark winter's morning pouring with rain with nobody around, not even dog walkers so what's the harm? So I ran with my bike quite wildly for the duration of the path more recklessly than I ever would cycling but that was ok because I wasn't riding it. Wouldn't ride there during the day when peds are all about, would stick to the right paths.

.......can hear a BM lecture coming my way and a reference to Nutty Cyclists advice and bye laws.............Still over zealous policing when there are real crimes they could be concentrating on.

Sorry disagree with you there. It is not that narrow and everyone is going very slow there with the main road just outside. Use it daily and never seen the sort of incident you get down nearer hyde park corner, say, where the sheer volume of bikes makes it a real mess. Also, given the lack of kerb there I am unclear what law is being broken as long as someone on a bike gives way to a ped.

Frankly I am pushed think of any more pointless law enforcement exercise (if indeed it really is one) than this.
