The wife has just declared she wants a bike!!!!
She also said it has to be light, preferably white and cost £200

I showed her the Specialized avail hybrid and we are off to the concept store to take a look, even though it costs double.

Been nice knowing you friends - this may be the last time i post or ride alone :-(

Road bikes are "to extreme" she says. Likes the specialized offerings and felt the difference between one at £400 and £650. Now she wants to look at Giant and Cannondales, before deciding. What have I started?

I'm with @Hill Wimp, the Dolce is a lovely bike, its not got an extreme setup either and is an outstanding weekend and sportive bike. It's the same type of bike as the Defy so if your going for rides together it could be worth a look.
The Dolce also look a bit of class as well IMHO. Lovely bikes

It's the Amira which is the hardcore ladies race bike

Bought my wife a Giant Escape last year, she loves it. Enjoy your rides together.

She likes the escape 3 but the lbs wouldn't let her test ride it, so we're trying to find another that will. My local guy doesn't stock the escape unfortunately.

I don't understand shops not letting you test ride. As long as you leave a deposit or some other security then what's the problem? Big shops all have display models that they will have to sell as shop soiled anyway at the end of the run so all it would cost them is a quick wipe over. They could even send someone out with you to make sure you didn't harm the bike. I think for the risk they would be taking they would get far more back. How can you be expected to blow £500 on soemthing you haven't even tried? It's bonkers.
