Although, to be completely honest Maggggggy, i think you do focus too much on other people. If that makes sence:wacko:
What i mean in, stop consentrating on what people are doing wrong, and just ride.
If i spent the time saying to people about talking on phones i wouldnt be going anywhere.
Just relax and ride your bike, less time stopping and talking to them, means the faster you can go.
Finaly, if you can talk then your obviously not trying hard enough are you!!! You should be trying to stop yourself from being sick at traffic lights, and trying to get back some breath, not moaning about the usage of mobile phones.;)

I've phoned to say we are late/stuck in traffic/ask for directions whilst sitting in the passenger seat.

I think to start with the law needs to be changed to make it not just a policeman observing the phone call to make it an offence.

And then make the penalties much greater as they obviously don't worry a large number of people at present.

Blimey how did we manage without mobile phones twenty odd years ago?

A map also came in handy.;)

Damn, I must be doing something wrong after-all. On my way up Tak Ma doon, every 10 seconds or so (approximately every 100 breaths!) I would say something. However, it's best I don't repeat what I said here.... Someone has to think of the children.:biggrin:

Nope, deffinatly not trying your hardest. When i was going up the Welsh hills on my fixed(72" fixed aswell) there was words coming out that you would be able to recognise.
And, when on fixed and riding with people on geared bikes, if i hear freewheeling then the people obviously arent trying hard enough so i need to go faster;)

I know ... they do have their uses - but I haven't yet found the need to have a chat on one - I just put £10 on my every now and again so I can send the occasional text or call. And maps are useful - I love them but sometimes its that extra verbal clue that helps you find somewhere - if you are going up and down a road looking for the right place.

I found my way round Hong Kong/Japan and Thailand without a mobile phone* also with the added handicap of not being able to speak the lingo.TIA.

*A compass did help though.

We don't have speed limiters, we don't have sensors to stop cars leaving less than a 2 second gap, we don't have many things...

What happens when a passenger wants to make a phone call? Or when the driver has stopped to make or receive a call?

To deal with these matters individually

For passengers it is unfortunate, but as with much legislation, it will affect an honest and sensible person simply because a significant minority are too thick to comply

THen on to the drivers stopping and usingthe phone....There is a wonderful technological invention called the ignition key!

It has several positions which are able to perform tasks with different positions and contacts.

It switches things like electronic circuitry on and this can enable the phone cutout. Then when you switch it off it enables the phone to work......problem solved.

I also have some bad news about the speed limiters.......

We DO have speed limiters - Speed limiters are available and used - they are compulsory in all vehicles covered by the European Council Directive 2002/85/EC which amends Council Directive 92/6/EEC. It has been adopted into GB Construction and Use Regulations through Statutory Instrument 2004 N0 2102 which came into force on 1st January 2005.

Easily expanded....

Finally we also have distance limiting devices and have since the early 1970s. However whilst they were extremely efficient and would save libves, they are vulnerable to the bad drivers who see a gap of more than 3 feet as space to drive through. The problem was that when a numpty charges through this tiny gap to leave a motorway (because they were too stupid or arrogant to use prooper lane discipline) this triggers off emergency braking in all the cars behind, simply another case of bad driving causing poor traffic flow

I have to say, despite my very strong dislike of mobile phone using drivers, I really wouldn't support any system that would negate the use of mobile phones in cars.

The main and most important reason for this is that it would be very VERY unpopular. That in itself would mean that it would never happen in our political climate. So trying to push through something like this, without popular support, would be a waste of time, as laudable as it is.

Personally I think passengers should have the right to use a phone anyway and have done so myself on numerous occasions.

Sorry. Not a cause I could support.

As a passenger I wouldn't accept not being able to use my mobile phone because some moron drivers use theres. That's just not good enough. It wouldn't be unlikely that people walking past cars may struggle to get a good signal....AND hands free kits are legal - would also be stopped.

As for speed limiters, yes some cars have them....but they limit the speeds to way over 100mph....useful.

I'm not for any of the things you or the ones I suggested.

You can by mobile phone signal jammers, they have various ranges, you could have fun with that every time you see a driver on the phone.....unless they just start concentrating on trying to get the phone back working?

Are these not illegal? If i remember, RF jamming is, but i could be wrong.

Oooh when i was younger and into radios, being sat in the car park waiting for my mum to finish shopping. Id have my radio on a certain frequency, and the whole car park was unable to unlock and lock their cars with the remote.
Ahhh, great fun.
Many people who tried the keys in various positions, set alarms off and couldnt turn them off, couldnt lock cars, or just walked away and left them unlocked.

All by accident ofcourse:angel::smile::evil:

Before you make that decision, lets get the facts that you are basing them on correct....

In the UK designated vehicles arelimited bythese devices to 90 Km /h or 56 mph they're extremely useful

he limiter will restrict the maximum powered speed
to 56mph (90km/h) for goods vehicles, and 62mph (100km/h) for
buses.
(Speed limiters - New Regulations advice leaflet VOSA)

Secondly it is not only cars that have them, since 2005 they have been compulsory for a number of vehicle groups including goods vehicles and buses, with the 90 / 100 km/h restrictions applicable.

I would certainly be interested in the source of your claim that speed limiters only limit speed to 100+mph

Then we come to inconvenience of passengers being unable to use their phones- it is an unfortunate side effect of living in a society. The actions of the stupid arrogant and antisocial who refuse to comply with the laws and rules of their Society will always inflict the cost of their refusal on the law abiding.

Scouts cannot carry knives because of the actions of a few criminals
You cannot drink in many places because of the actions of a few inconsiderate drinkers
You cannot let dogs on some beaches because of the mess left by the careless owners who think cleaning up after their pet is beneath them

There are numerous others that could be listed where people have had their activities restricted because of the actions of a few morons

All these restrictions have been put in place because a few cannot understand a simple concept or cannot see that it applies to them as well

The answer is for the thick stupid and arrogant to stop using their phones whilst driving then these sanctions will become unneccessary.
