Hi All,

I'm a new member to CycleChat so I hope I have posted this thread in the correct place!

My name is Jamie Donegan and I am a student at Cardiff University studying MA in Urban Design. I am currently carrying out my dissertation research of which the topic is cycling and shared space (in particular if shared space has a disincentive effect on cyclists and if so why?). I have already carried out a number of interviews with cyclists along Exhibition Road in London and New Road in Brighton which have been very fruitful. I am now looking to expand data collection through online questionnaires adapted from the questions used for the on street interviews and other means.

Below is the very short questionnaire I have put together which shouldnt take longer than a couple of minutes to complete (but please feel free to embellish on your answers if you wish!) so if you could have look give me your oppinions it would be much appreciated!

I've cycled along exhibition road once since the change, at about 7pm at night. There are gutters down each side of the road. There were cars parked along the gutters. The pedestrians were on the outside of those cars. The cars and cyclists were on the inside.

ie It was just like any other road. If I hadn't read a LCC article about it, I'd have assumed the only thing unusual about it was the surface.

Is it different during the day, or is it a failure?

when I've been there it's been very different. The pedestrians wander across, and the traffic slows right down.
