OK...what about NZ.....especially the North End......or the Cook Islands....
I wouldn't be happy spending most of my holiday with crippling jet-lag, but each to his own.

Orient Express Company travel from London via Paris to Venice every week, then 3 days in Venice with private launch from station to hotel on Grand Canal and private launch to Murano Glass Factory visit, travel on first class train to Florence then 3 days there, private limousine to Pisa Airport flying back to London... or you could get Orient Express back home.

We did that for a lot less than £2000 each including spending money for our 25th wedding anniversary though that was 4 years ago... it was fantastic!!

Monaco is pretty cool experience.

Alternatively what about doings legendary road trip, hire a classic 66 mustang and do route 66 or head towards Vegas... that would be a really cool experience and you get to see some interesting places.

Tokyo is great but it is about 12 hours travel time and 9 hours of time difference so that could potentially eat into your week. IMO it would be worth that inconvenience but just something to think of.

Indian Ocean... Mauritius is fantastic. That is not to say the likes of the Maldives are any less fantastic just that Mauritius has a bit more variety to it. You can do all the relaxing, lazy stuff but also some sightseeing and there is also some really great cycling too.

In terms of 'unforgettable experience' then i'd recommend Jerusalem it is unlike anything else in the world - i've been lucky to travel widely over the years but nothing really comes close to there (and the area around it). I'm not even religious either!
I'll second the Mauritius suggestion. Funnily enough, I am in Mauritius right now, albeit for work not a holday, and it is a very nice place indeed.

If you want exotic, with bit of luxury, great food, fantastic spa, pool gym, beautiful countryside, amd great shopping nearby, you can do no better than going here.

One week in this place is the equivalent of three weeks anywhere else, it is without a single shadow of a doubt the most relaxing place I have ever been, and I have been to a few great places. The service is exceptional, the venue is stunning, food is to die for and the rooms are luxurious. The pool and spa are something else. In the last ten ears I have stayed here eight times, and I got married there.

And you'll nly spend half your budget, the rest you can spoil ourselves shopping, or use for another holiday somewhere else later.
