Funny thing ..the dog was killed by a cyclist that wasn't even seen and the post mortem proved the dog had been hit?

Hold on a moment didn't the owner think about go looking for a cyclist who would have been (at any speed hitting an object) been sprawled all over the park some where!

If I'm out walking my dog with my walking stick and another dog / dogs start an attack at my dog, that walking stick gets used, but then I'll just blame a cyclist for the damage to the other dog / dogs

I don't listen to these items on R2 anymore, it just winds me up, I'd rather be riding my bike. Same goes for reading articles in newspapers or on their respective web-sites.
Ignorance sometimes is bliss

Amen to that .. it's akin to the letters page of a local newspaper, only without anyone editing it. Was it Mitchell and Webb who did a spoof news bulletin with the "I don't know anything about it, but I reckon" section at the end?

My dog helped me master clipless pedals by helpfully putting himself driectly under where I'd fall if I had a "moment" as I was wobbling 'round the garden trying to get used to SPDs.

When we're out and about he's on a lead, and he sits and waits while cyclists/horse riders etc pass us.

When I'm on shared paths and I know there are dogs about, I slow right down, cover the brakes, and get ready to stop if they cross my path.

Shared path use seems like simple stuff for both dog owners and cyclists, to me. Not sure why it's so difficult for everyone to use a bit of common sense in this matter.

Not to mention the habit in this part of the country of responsible dog owners driving around with nearside window open and dog slobbereing in the wind. Don't expect it's wearing a seat belt either!

Dogs that aren't on leads in public places are a bl00dy menace. I run around my local park and I have been chased by numerous dogs. The owners always say "Awh..... he/she won't bite you, he's being friendly". Yeah right, when it's teeth are embedded in your leg. I booted one Jack Russell thing that wasn't on a lead, chased, snarled and growled at me then bit me on my ankle. It flew about 10 feet through the air. Result!!! They sh1t all over the place as well and their owners never clear the muck up. Dogs should be banned. Then there are the scrotes who have the fighting dogs .......... You should be able to call up the Police and get them to come and confiscate them, then destroy them and their owner.

For the avoidance of doubt: I like dogs. Some of their owners, on the other hand...

Going back to the broadcast, I thought the cyclist 'spokesperson' did cyclists a great disservice.

He came across as an arrogant knob.

Really?

FFS, talk about tarring everyone with the same brush

I'm with John the Monkey on this one. Common sense and respect from all parties would make all the difference.

If a dog gets hit by a bike on a shared use path IMO it's the fault of the dog owner for not having their animal under proper control. The cyclist should try to obtain the dog owner's details so that they can recover the costs of bike repairs, and sue for damages for their injuries and the trauma caused by the incident.

Fortunately I've been able to anticipate when a dog is going to run amok on a shared use path and stop. Some owners though are idiots I've smiled and said some like phew tha was a close one, most people smile back maybe say sorry but some idiots do nothing but look contempuosly at me.
