Dare I say it, there is also something of a ‘fashion’, or expectation that more seatpost somehow looks better or demonstrates some kind of advanced capability. After all, the pro’s on telly often have a lot of seatpost showing.

To me the main issue is the rocking pelvis; that seat is too high. However to point this out would be risking an unwanted reaction; some would take this as a slight on their knowledge or preference.

the pros do tend to ride smaller bikes than recommended to the general public with massive stems for stiffer frames and to get more aero , a position most of the public couldnt hold for too long !
I agree about that a lot of people seem to have their saddle a bit higher than they should as when people start they are told the saddle is to low and overcompensate .
On the opposite end of the spectrum a guy who rides with the club has his saddle way too low and apparently he has had a bike fit ! , we have tried telling him there are good and bad fitters but hes adamant that its right although we have convinced him to put it up 5 mm but i reckon it could go up about 5 cm .

I see more folk with too low saddles rather too high. Unless they’ve had a career as a stunt double for John Wayne.😉
I see a lot of those too, but say nothing.

Also, riders struggling with very low/very high cadence on bikes with lots of unused gears. Less than about 20 rpm or more than about 120 rpm. Either their gears don't work, or they don't have a clue what they are for (or maybe even how the shifters work?).
