The Iomega ego drives are best for that I think.I like the Freecom for its portability and ability to bounce when dropped though that may not mean it is the best.
Portables are better for surviving drops but are slower with lower maximum capacities and higher prices.
I have a 160gb Samsung S1 which is the length of a credit card and only a little wider and comes in a leatherette
wallet.
But if you're after backups then you're not looking for portability so much (don't start off on offsite backups please
) and a NAS drive with capacity for multiple drives would be better as you could leave it next to the router but then more expensive and requiring technical knowledge.
