For no reason I can fathom I've now have two extra 'local drives' E & F appeared?

This as well as normal C & D (DVD/CD).

No I've not left a memory stick or external hard drive in

Only newish programmes i've installed are 'sopcast' (via cnet, so should be okay) & a roxio DVD / CD creator thingie.

One is 46mb and has lots of dell files (it is a dell computer)

the other is 4.63 gb and has lots of folders with SRC 1-5 & other folders with, BAT, BIN & IMG.

Tempted to delete them? and use system restore if it goes pear shaped.

wife & small children (use for online cbbeebis type game / watching youtube) are the only other users.

Virus checker not picking anything up either

any suggestions please

Hidden partitions that have become visible ?

As Andrew says, i would guess they are hidden partitions - probably used for system restores - and I would take a guess that it was Roxio wot done it. If you delete them - don't expect system restore to put them back as it's very limited and does not restore data.

Right click the My Computer icon and select manage
the select disk management

this will show you graphically how your hard disk is split up and what drive letters are assigned.

ps... I wouldn't give CNET or any other shareware portal carte blanche and load anything it gives a link for - i would suggest you research unknown software first. That said, cnet do tend to be better than most.

Thanks all of you.

Done the right click thing...

The smaller one has 'Eisa configuration' (FAT)- partition & looks okay,

the larger seems 'dell' related &'unknown partition (FAT32), though mentions 'recovery' in some of the files.

I shall leave them alone
