That's nothing ! Some mornings I have to wait for a snail to cross the decking before I can get anywhere near my garden shed / workshop .

In between here and there
Working from home would be hell for me I love my commute and the routine of it, in fact when I move house it has got to be between 15-17 miles from work, preferably South West of work ^_^

I agree -

Completely nuts Fort William/Glasgow -

Although I have done Kinloss - Buchan/Peterhead for a short stint of 6 weeks.

Longest commute was Kinloss to Falkland Islands via Manchester & Brize Norton -

Didn't come back for 6 months though so -

Does this count ?
When I was at College in Glasgow we had a tutor who commuted from Fort William each day.
I thought he was mad. Still do!

Also my big Brother commutes between Clydebank and Lochgilphead each day. I think he's mad!!

Starting a new job tomorrow and have to commute again, which is a shame.

Central London to Windsor, so not too bad. I could drive but reckon I'll take the train mostly.
What annoys me is the cost of season tickets. You hardly save any money at all by buying the season ticket, and given that I don't necessarily go into the office every day, I can actually end up losing money. The only way I an possibly get value for money is if I travel the return journey 5 days a week...

folding bike would save you a lot of money.
cycle from Windsor to Slough - jump on the train to Paddington - cycle from Paddington to office. I do something similar from West Drayton and it's a breeze

I thought about that, but don't like Bromptons, plus am going the other way, I live in central london and work in Windsor.
It's probably cheaper to drive, just more stressful.

Once summers gets here I'll walk to slough on the way home, it's a nice walk

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Too close for many people, unless you are very disciplined - and it just about limits you to self-
employment. The ideal IMO is a five or ten minute walk.
Surely a 25-minute walk. Then it's a five or ten minute potter on the bike.

Given the choice of a large light flat 5 minutes walk from the office and a slightly smaller but still light flat 5 minutes on the bike from the office I went for the second, even at the cost of significant extra cash. I didn't want to be able to see my flat while I was sitting in meetings in the Boardroom.
