Spot on, I'd hate to live close to the office, need some kind of separation to stay sane!
I know what you mean. Let us know how you get on with the new commute.

I actually met him sleeping in a garden on a small island after he'd swum across the Thames near Windsor, we thought it was a dead body and got a huge shock when he woke up. maybe I'll see him again!I know what you mean. Let us know how you get on with the new commute.

When I read the headline I was expecting something more quirky, but I was still surprised that people were driving such distances when there were train options. But it seems that the trains are more expensive than using a car. Madness!i thought it was gonna be about people who cycled 6 hours each way lol
I hate commuting to my yard, i only live 2.7 miles away!
Takes me longer locking my bike up than i actually spend commuting!
There is a young lady in our central london office who lives on Isle of Wight, she works at one one day a week but comes into London the other four.I knew a guy at the stock exchange in London who commuted from the Isle of Wight most days.
All that too-ing & fro-ing & living in the dark...I used to commute from just outside Haslemere to Hatfield ( OR Haslemere to New Barnet) each and every day... hated it because I had to cover just about all of the bad junctions on the M25 starting with the A3, M3, M4, M40, M1 and then do the A1(M) if I have them in the right order - hopefully I have forgotten them! No choice because I was a contracted out IT Engineer with a company car - did that for 8 months and through winter I literally saw no daylight except at weekends because I would set off in the dark, arrive in the dark, be inside a windowless building all day, leave in the dark and arrive home in the dark. It always took around 3 hours each way. Haslemere to Swindon was another I had to do on a daily basis for a long time as well.
Thankfully I dropped to weekly commutes for Haslemere to Petersborough and Haslemere to Aberdeen (car to Heathrow, then fly...actually should have just driven up there and stayed up there for the duration with my car, I would have had more free time!).
Being made redundant from that company was the best thing that happened to me. Took a job 5 miles from home, and started cycling or walking to work instead!
now you know why I quit and went off to cycle around the world and now only have a bike for commuting/riding during the week instead. 2 hours cycle commuting each way 2-3 times a week. much more fun!All that too-ing & fro-ing & living in the dark...
Doesn't leave Mushroom for anything else...
Tis possible. We must have passed each other, going the other way. For eleven years I commuted from Finchley to Guildford.......I can sympathise - although I think the anticlockwise M25 journey is marginally better than your route.

Edit: OK that one is too good to miss. It actually got to the point where I used to use the car headlights to photo the fungi growing along my track so that I had something to post on a nature photography forum I used to be a member of... I am not kidding
