I have recently been wondering about this too. I am short sighted and wear normal single vision glasses, however when cycling:

My glasses get filthy, even if it just rains on them
My eyes water a lot
I've had a few things get into my eye

I am due an optician appointment sometime this year and was going to see what they recommend.

I've never considered contact lenses before, but was wondering if this could be the best way, to wear contacts and have cycling glasses over them. I am not sure I could wear contacts all day though as I am told in air conditioned offices they're not comfortable, but I wouldn't want to wear contacts for just 2 hours a day then dispose them!

I've always had monthly lenses - they are fine and cheaper than daily disposables.
I do need the cycling glasses though or my eyeballs dry out and I have to chip my lenses off with a chisel!

As someone who has worn glasses since the age of three (I'm 55 and don't ask me how the hell the optician(s) tested my eyes when they decided I first needed them) they can be an absolute pain when cycling - misting up in fog, obscured when raining, blurry and spangly at night - but I've never had the problem the OP has described. I play the game of buying frames from one shop and getting the lenses from another, and though Should-Have-Gone-To and Their-Rivals seem to have cottoned onto this and ask questions, if you have purchased from them before they are still quite easy to convincingly lie to if you're the sort of person who doesn't like getting ripped off. So my advice? Should-Have-Gone-To don't charge for adjustments, so book an appointment with their optician and get a cheap pair that fits comfortably - and a prescription - and then fill your boots with the best on-line deal you can get using the prescription details. And if they don't fit too well, go back to Should-Have-Gone-To, tell them you bought the glasses from them, and get them to make the adjustment.

Sounds a load of hassle to save a few quid, they aren't exactly costly.

Nor do they sell wraparound frames helpful for cycling which also have arms that don't sit behind the ears, so this doesn't really help the OP
